From Sweden to Cyprus: The Journey Behind AcuClinic Cyprus

There are moments in life when a professional journey becomes something much more than a career.
For me, acupuncture began as an interest and gradually developed into a profession, a passion and a way of helping people that has shaped many years of my life.
Today, that journey has brought me from Sweden to Cyprus, where I have opened AcuClinic Cyprus Ltd in Paralimni. But the clinic did not begin with a sign on a door or a website. It began many years earlier, with curiosity, education, countless patient encounters and a growing fascination with the depth of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
This is the story behind that journey.
The Beginning: Three Years of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Stockholm
My professional foundation in acupuncture was built in Sweden through a three-year Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture education at Kina-Terapi Skolan in Stockholm.
Three years may sound like a long time to study one therapeutic tradition, but Traditional Chinese Medicine quickly teaches you that there is always another layer to discover.
The education provided a comprehensive foundation in Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture, introducing me to the traditional theories and clinical thinking behind this ancient system. But studying acupuncture is not simply about learning where acupuncture points are located. It is about learning to observe, understanding patterns, listening carefully to what a person describes, noticing what may not be said directly, and developing the ability to see connections between different aspects of health.
The more I studied, the more fascinated I became. And that curiosity never really went away.
Continuing to Learn
One of the things I appreciate most about Traditional Chinese Medicine is that completing an initial education does not feel like reaching the end. It feels more like opening a door.
After my three-year TCM acupuncture education, I continued with further training and specialised studies in different areas of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Among these were further studies relating to anxiety, women's health and depression. Each area introduced new perspectives and helped me understand how differently the body and mind can respond to imbalance, stress and life circumstances.
These additional areas of study also strengthened something that had already become very clear during my clinical work: health cannot always be separated into neat categories. Physical wellbeing, emotional wellbeing, sleep, stress, lifestyle and other aspects of a person's life can influence one another. This is one of the reasons I continue to find Traditional Chinese Medicine so fascinating.
The Balance Method: A Particularly Fascinating Chapter
Among the further acupuncture training I have undertaken, one area has been particularly exciting for me: Balance Method Acupuncture.
The Balance Method introduced another fascinating way of thinking about acupuncture and the relationship between different parts of the body. Rather than focusing only on placing needles directly into the painful area, Balance Method approaches can use points at other locations on the body to influence the area being treated.
For me, this opened up a completely different way of thinking about acupuncture. It encouraged me to look beyond the obvious location of a symptom and consider how different parts of the body may be connected within a treatment strategy. This way of thinking has become an important part of my professional development and is one of the reasons acupuncture continues to challenge and inspire me.
There is always something new to observe. Always another relationship to explore. Always another question to ask.
Learning From Every Patient
Over the years, my education has come from more than courses and textbooks. It has also come from the people who have trusted me with their health.
Every patient brings a different story. Some arrive because of pain that has gradually changed their everyday life. Others are dealing with stress, tension, sports injuries, sleep difficulties or health concerns that have been affecting them for a long time. Some know exactly what they are looking for. Others simply know that something does not feel right and want to explore another approach.
These experiences have taught me to remain curious. A good practitioner should never assume that they already know everything. The moment we stop being curious is the moment we stop learning.
Why I Chose to Move to Cyprus
After many years of practising in Sweden, life eventually brought an unexpected opportunity for a new chapter. My family and I moved to Cyprus.
Leaving Sweden was not simply about changing countries. It meant leaving behind a familiar professional environment, long-standing relationships and a clinic life that had been built over many years. But it also created an opportunity. An opportunity to start again. An opportunity to bring the experience, knowledge and professional values I had developed in Sweden into a completely new environment. And that is how the idea of AcuClinic Cyprus began to take shape.
Building AcuClinic Cyprus in Paralimni
When I began planning AcuClinic Cyprus, I knew that I did not simply want to recreate my previous practice somewhere else. I wanted to build something that felt right for Cyprus.
The clinic is located in Paralimni, within easy reach of people living in Protaras, Kapparis, Ayia Napa, Sotira, Deryneia and the wider Famagusta region.
Our aim is to create a calm and welcoming environment where people have time to talk, ask questions and receive individual attention. Acupuncture remains at the heart of what we do. At the same time, AcuClinic Cyprus brings together several complementary approaches, including homeopathy, Gua Sha, cupping, massage, Qigong and nutritional guidance.
The goal is not to offer as many services as possible, but to offer thoughtful complementary support based on the individual.
Bringing a Scandinavian Perspective to Cyprus
Although AcuClinic Cyprus is now firmly rooted in Cyprus, my years of professional life in Sweden continue to influence the way I work.
I value clear communication, professionalism, respect for people's time, a calm environment and attention to detail. These are simple principles, but I believe they make a meaningful difference to the patient experience.
For me, the combination is particularly interesting. Traditional Chinese Medicine brings thousands of years of traditional knowledge and a holistic way of looking at health. My Scandinavian background brings another perspective on organisation, communication and professional service. And Cyprus has become the place where these different influences now meet.
Acupuncture for Modern Life
Traditional Chinese Medicine developed in a very different world from the one we live in today. Yet many of the questions remain surprisingly familiar.
How do we recover from stress?
How do we maintain balance when life becomes demanding?
How do we recover when we push our bodies too hard?
How do we recognise when our lifestyle is no longer supporting our wellbeing?
These questions are particularly relevant today. People in Cyprus live active lives. They work, exercise, travel, raise families and manage increasingly busy schedules. Sports such as padel and tennis are growing rapidly, while many people also enjoy running, swimming, cycling and gym training. Others spend long hours sitting at computers or working physically demanding jobs.
Acupuncture can be explored as part of a broader complementary approach to many of these modern challenges.
From Swedish Experience to a New Beginning in Cyprus
Looking back, it is difficult to say exactly where this journey began. Perhaps it began when I first became curious about Traditional Chinese Medicine. Perhaps it began during those three years of study in Stockholm. Perhaps it began with the first patient who trusted me with their treatment. Or perhaps it has been developing through every patient, every course and every clinical experience since then.
What I do know is that I have not arrived in Cyprus with the feeling that my professional journey is complete. Quite the opposite. I feel that a new chapter has begun. The knowledge I gained in Sweden has come with me, but so has the desire to continue learning.
The Journey Continues
Today, when I welcome someone into AcuClinic Cyprus, I bring with me many years of education, further specialist training and clinical experience from Sweden.
But I also bring something that cannot be written on a certificate: curiosity.
Curiosity about the person sitting in front of me.
Curiosity about what may be contributing to their symptoms.
Curiosity about what acupuncture can offer.
And curiosity about what I might learn from the next patient.
Moving from Sweden to Cyprus has changed many things in my life. But one thing has remained exactly the same. I still love learning about acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine and the remarkable complexity of the human body.
AcuClinic Cyprus is not the end of my journey. It is the beginning of its next chapter.
Welcome to AcuClinic Cyprus.
